This CME/CE-certified audio and slide presentation will provide updates on the latest paradigms for the testing and management of HIV. The symposium will be conducted in an engaging format, in which the faculty and audience will navigate a series of questions on current management pathways, including testing; timing of initiation of treatment; initial and ongoing treatment options with current and new agents; and adherence and management of coinfections and comorbidities. In addition, the experts will look at the road ahead and discuss recent research in understanding the complications of HIV disease and treatment and future initiatives for potentially curing HIV and eradicating HIV reservoirs.
This program is designed for health care practitioners (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses) involved in the management of patients with HIV.
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Implement the 2006 CDC recommendations for testing patients for HIV
- Identify disparities in regard to access of care in underserved areas and populations in the United States
- Implement the 2009 DHHS guidelines as they relate to treatment timing, initiation, and regimen selection for the optimal treatment for persons with HIV
- Discuss current and new agents for the treatment of HIV with respect to adherence, coinfection, and comorbidities
- Discuss advances in current research into understanding the complications of HIV disease and treatment
- Identify the role of inflammation and initiatives to potentially cure HIV and eradicate HIV reservoirs
